Trek 930 Mountain Bike

After riding BMX bikes for all of my childhood, I bought my first mountain bike at age 28. I bought it at a swap meet for $40 dollars on 22 Sept. 2013. The bike I bought was a Trek 930 singletrack mountain bike.

I was very excited to have a “grown up” bike. However, the bike I had bought was in a sad state. The chain and gears were completely worn out, the cables were stretched, and the rear wheel did not track straight. Rather than buy a complete bike, I bought a project bike and set about replacing nearly everything on it.

New Parts

I selected some new parts and placed a $60 order from Jenson USA. With my BMX bike project many years earlier, I had a bike shop assemble everything for me. With this one, I installed the parts myself.

The most challenging part was removing the rear sprocket from the back wheel. I did not have the special tool required for this, but a friend was able to help me out and we got them swapped over.

After replacing all of the cables, the chain, the rear sprocket, and the brakes, I was ready to ride!

As time went on, I upgraded other components such as the back wheel. I eventually ditched the knobby MTB tires and went with some hybrid bike tires, since 99% of my riding is on pavement.
